Below is a list of websites that will enable you to get specific information on the different licenses and fees that will need to be taken care of to make your business legitimate in the State, the Town and the County.
Federal Requirements:
1. If your business is to have employees a Federal Employment Identification Number (EIN) is required, that form may be found at http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small.
2. If your business will not have employees, and you are operating as a Sole Proprietorship, you may use your social security number to report to the IRS.
State Requirements:
1. A CRS number is required for the purpose of reporting and paying gross receipts tax. You may get that form at http://www.tax.state.nm.us/forms/year99/acd31015f.pdf.
2. If your business has employees, you will also need a NM Department of Labor number for the purpose of reporting and paying unemployment taxes as well as workman’s compensation fees. The form is available at http://www.dws.state.nm.us/dws-forms.html.
3. Workman's Compensation Insurance is required by the State of New Mexico and can be acquired from most insurance agencies. More information regard workman’s comp. can be found at http://www.workerscomp.state.nm.us/partners/employers.php.
Town of Edgewood Requirements:
1. If you are doing business within the boundaries of the Town of Edgewood, a Business Operating License is required from the Town of Edgewood. The form may be found at http://www.edgewood-nm.gov/pdf/MasterAppBusRegComm.pdf.
2. If you are operating a home business within the Town boundaries a separate form is required and is available at 286-4518.
